Final P and P statement

Problem Statement: Comcast cable boxes (DVR) continue to consume electricity even when they are not in use causing unnecessary costs of an electricity bill per household

Purpose Statement: The purpose of this study was to develop a solution to reduce electricity consumption of the Comcast cable boxes when they are not being used.

Three Problems and Purpose Statements

1) Problem Statement: Vandalism in San Francisco Muni buses is a problem due

to aesthetic issues of graffiti and the expensive clean-up

Purpose Statement: The purpose of study was to find a solution that prevents

senseless and costly vandalism on Muni buses

2) Problem Statement: Many people in San Francisco do not know that electrical

appliances continue to consume electricity when they are in standby power and It

can cost lots of money on Electricity bills per household

Purpose Statement: The purpose of this study was to develop a solution to

block power to appliances when they are in standby power

3) Problem Statement: Bicyclists in San Francisco are serious about protecting

their property, but despite locks and cables through bicycles on the street, bicycle

thieves still break the locks and get their hands on many bikes

Purpose Statement: The purpose of study was to develop a new lock that

prevents bicycle thieves from stealing bicycles on the street.

Who am I?

My name is Nam Tran, graduating Senior at San Francisco State University majoring in Design and Industry with concentration in Product Design and Development. I was born and raised in Vietnam. I'm comfortable with working with programs like Adobe software (i.e: Photoshop, Illustrator, In-design, After Effect), CAD and Solid Works. My talent is drawing. My interests are in travelling, watching movies, playing video games, playing soccer and hanging out with friends

What Inspires/"WOWs" Me?

I'm most inspired by others around me, whether they are fellow artists or just random strangers. I love exchanging ideas and seeing different interpretations of the same object with artists. The most inspiring thing for me is everyday life and nature. I also love nature and how fascinating it can be, whether is natural structures or animal evolution and behavior.

Who Influences Me?

Jonathan Ive is a British designer and the Senior Vice President of Industrial Design at Apple Inc. He is the principal designer of the iMac, titanium and aluminum PowerBook G4, MacBook, unibody MacBook Pro, iPod, iPhone, and iPad.

What is my vision or hope in my lifetime?

In my lifetime, i'm considering pursuing a secondary degree in Interior Design after i graduate with my first degree in Industrial Design. My goal is to work for a high-tech company like Apple Inc where i can design many stylish laptops or cellphones and see many customers who line up in front of the stores early morning buying my products
